Where ancient dye meets contemporary craft

INDIGOLA is a boutique surface design studio obsessed with the alchemy of indigo — the pigment that has colored cloth across continents for millennia. We work at the intersection of tradition and precision.

Each piece begins with a hand-dyed base, where natural indigo vats yield unpredictable, unrepeatable blues. Then we build on that living canvas with digital printing, layering motifs that reference West African resist-dye patterns and Louisiana Delta folk art.

The result: table linens that carry history in their folds and modern sophistication in their details.

Two lineages.
One tradition.

We draw from two distinct indigo traditions — each with its own rhythm, its own palette, its own story to tell through cloth.

🌍

West African Indigo

From Mali to Nigeria, indigo has been central to craft and culture for centuries. We reference resist-dye patterns — adire, bogolann — in our digital work, honoring the geometry that made these traditions global.

🌊

Louisiana Delta

The Mississippi Delta's Blue Jazz tradition fused African indigo expertise with the humid, river-soaked landscape of the American South. We inherit that spirit — improvisation within structure, blues within blues.

Our Process

Each piece is hand-dipped in a natural indigo vat, yielding a base that no machine can replicate. Digital printing then layers precise motifs over that organic foundation — tradition and technology in conversation.

How We Work

From vat to table in four stages

01

Natural Vat

We maintain a living indigo vat — fermented plant matter and lime — that produces the signature blue-green depth of natural indigo dye. No synthetic substitutes.

02

Hand Dip

Fabric is dipped repeatedly, oxidizing in open air between each bath. The depth of color builds slowly — 4 to 8 dips for our deepest shades.

03

Digital Print

Once dried and fixed, the hand-dyed base receives precision-printed motifs. This is where geometry meets organic — clean lines over living texture.

04

Finishing

Each piece is washed, pressed, and inspected. We embrace the small variations that mark hand-crafted work — they're features, not flaws.
